Whangarei Community Toy Library provides an affordable toy lending service to Whanau of Whangarei. Over 200 families are active members with an average attendance of 25-30 families per day.
The library makes it possible for every family to experience quality play though an up to date and extensive selection of toys and equipment. Our members represent a wide cross-section of the ethnic and socio-economic make-up of our community.

Whangarei’s only mainstream Toy Library has served families in our town for more than 30 years.
Situated at Whangarei Central Baptist Church with off street parking especially for Toy Library visitors when the Library is open
OPEN HOURS - Tuesday to Friday 9 am to Noon (mostly term time). We welcome parents/caregivers to visit any time – the Library is staffed by a Librarian and a roster of parents and others who volunteer their time to help during the busy daily sessions.
This Toy Library offers a wide range of popular and quality toys and play gear for girls and boys up to school age ... including Ride–on; Water Play, Push/Pull (trucks, etc.), Sport and Outdoors; Family (Pretend Play); Dolls and dolls gear; Baby toys; Educational toys; Construction; Art; Puzzles and Games.
We depend on membership fees – affordable to every family and whanau in our area – four toys, a puzzle and a book may be borrowed for two weeks for less than the price of a coffee or a Happy Meal at McDonalds! (Membership fees start at $45 for 3 months, or a one month trial for $25)
Toys may be borrowed for two weeks – and most toys are covered by your membership fee.
“GREEN SPOT” Toys (with a value of more than $100) have an additional fee of only $2!
Whangarei’s Toy Library depends on successful funding applications to keep the standard of quality play that is available. We have built a positive relationship with several major funding organisations including COGS, Lottery Community, Pub Charity, and local Trusts.
More than 180 families access the Toy Library presently and each year this climbs to more than 200 by the end of the year.
Toys maybe rented for the summer break – providing some local fundraising to buy more toys!
Grandparents, extended family/whanau and caregivers are regular borrowers and Casual borrowers are also welcome ($2 per toy for 2 weeks, with a $20 bond.)
Toy Libraries exist to offer families the chance to borrow toys at are often beyond their budget; providing great play ideas; teaching children to share – borrow instead of buy, an opportunity to mix and meet other parents and share their suggestions for a great toy from personal experience.
