Art and Music- 2014
Whangarei’s Toy Library project for Semester 4: 2013 is to develop and expand access to art and music experiences for children of Whangarei. Families will be able to borrow new and exciting quality equipment to experiment with creativity through music, beat, rhythm; though art: colour, shape, texture.
Our Toy Library has seen significant growth recently (more than 220 families accessed our service in 2013). This growth has required expansion of facilities and part of our annual plan for 2013 is to add more shelving space. A newly built shelving configuration resulted in the improved display of items for Art and Music. Consequently these categories were discovered afresh by many visitors because of the visibility, and the range available has fallen short of the demand.
We have spent some time consulting with our members, with families, music teachers, local art teachers and early childhood teachers as to what they would like to see available to borrow that we do not currently provide. We researched suppliers and costs to discover what we could add to our Art and Music category to meet the increased demand. The we applied to and received funding from the Whangarei District Council's Creative Communities Scheme.
We believe that this new project will give the Toy Library the ability to provide new experiences and a larger range of opportunity for parents and caregivers to provide new avenues of creativity for young children.
